Monaco

I was the editor on a four-person team competing in the 2022 24 Hour Film Race, where we had to create a short film—from concept and writing through filming and editing—in just 24 hours. I edited for 14 straight hours, making editing decisions quickly under an intense deadline. The film made the top 10 finalists and was screened at the Cobb International Film Festival in Atlanta, where it won 3rd place and Best Cinematography in our category.

Puppets - Editor’s Cut

Dan Luce is a Portland puppeteer who creates his own strange and imaginative world through his handmade puppets. I was given almost full creative license to shape the film from unscripted footage, selecting and structuring the material to find the story within it. The result is a short documentary with a magical, melancholic, and slightly otherworldly atmosphere.

Bryan Adam Cover for The Unknowns

I edited this music video for The Unknowns, a local cover band looking for a promotional video they could use to pitch themselves to bars and venues. The band provided two complete performance takes of the song. I selected the stronger take as the foundation of the video, then synced and incorporated shots from the second performance to create a cohesive edit, with the cuts and shot changes driven by the music.

Junkbird Teaser

Junkbird is a horror-comedy short film that I edited, with a quirky tone and distinctive vintage aesthetic. Working from a script, I edited performances, dialogue, music, and visuals together to shape the pacing and tone of the finished film. This gave me the opportunity to work in scripted narrative and follow the director’s creative vision. For my portfolio, I selected some of my favourite scenes from the finished film to create this short teaser.

Hockey At Old Age

This 5 minute documentary explores senior hockey players in their 70’s and beyond, including their love of the sport, the physical challenges of continuing to play, and the camaraderie that comes with the game. I was given full creative freedom to find the story within the footage, including condensing a long interview into its strongest material, and deciding what to include and leave out. The interview forms the backbone of the documentary, with supporting footage selected and structured around the story.

Butchers Block

I was given raw footage from a local BBQ restaurant and independently edited it into a finished promotional video. The footage included food preparation, finished dishes, the restaurant interior, and an on-camera spokesperson. I handled the complete edit, including shot selection, pacing, colour correction, sound, and music selection, choosing a blues track to complement the restaurant’s warm, Southern-style atmosphere. The business was extremely happy with the finished video and shared it on its Instagram page.

Fairy Cakes

I created this short promotional video using footage of a local vegan bakery in Vancouver. I used colour correction to deepen the black background and bring out the colours of the cakes, while jazz music gives the video a cool, polished atmosphere. I also created seamless transitions between shots, using moments when the camera passes into darkness and quick zoom transitions to move naturally between different cakes.

How to Make a Surf Board

I created this promotional-style video from footage of an artisanal surfboard maker in Vancouver, structuring the edit around the different stages of building a surfboard, from raw material to finished product. Each stage is introduced with a simple one-word title, while custom zooms and transitions create a continuous visual flow between the different steps. Since the surfboard maker is Israeli, I chose a Hebrew reggae track with a surf-inspired sound to complement the subject and overall feel of the video.

Star Quake

Star Quake was a superhero pilot created by an independent director in the US, who asked me to cut a short trailer from the finished film. I condensed the pilot into a little over a minute, selecting and restructuring scenes to introduce the characters, establish the premise, and build toward the action. The trailer uses dramatic music and increasingly fast-paced cuts to create the feel of a cinematic superhero trailer.
