Comedy
Van Man was a big passion project. In my past career, I owned a mobile window washing business that took me across Western Canada every summer. It was a unique life filled with adventures and crazy stories from the road, so I created this comedic series documenting it, with some creative fiction mixed in.
Although they were filmed with a cell phone, the storytelling is some of my best. I did everything in the creative process, from ideation, to script writing, shot planning, filming, directing, being on camera, editing, and sound design.
Van Man is where I really let my playfulness and creativity express themselves without any rules, and brought into it my quirky style and self-deprecating sense of humor.
The Debt
A parody of a classic film we all know and love, this fiction piece takes my real life as a window washer, and puts me in an imaginary scenario based on this famous movie. I was trying to mimic the old fashioned feel, so there was a lot of location scouting to find the right settings, and directing my guest actor and the film in general.
The Haircut
A story about a haircut gone terribly wrong, the chain of events is so absurd that you might think it’s made up, but it’s a true story. This episode is a masterful recreation of that crazy story, re-enacted 1-2 years after it happened. There was a high degree of planning because I wanted to recreate the scenes as closely as possible to the original events.
Van Life During Covid
This half hour comedy tells my story of doing van life during the summer of 2020, and all the difficulties that came with it. This episode makes fun of all the absurdities we collectively had to go through during covid, and how I reacted to these situations. There was a lot of re-enactment, and the biggest challenge in this project was the sheer amount of shots I had to plan and film, often with a lot of resourcefulness and ingenuity.
